FAQ

Here are some questions that Forth Valley Flyers get commonly asked

What is our history? We were formed in 2010 and have around 50 members. Some of our members have competed at Paralympics and World Championship events, but more importantly we want all our members to simply enjoy athletics, make new friends and have some fun.

Why Forth Valley Flyers? To hear the answer for this from some of our athletes please see video clip on our home page.

Are the coaches qualified? Yes, Forth Valley Flyers coaches are qualified and PVG checked. First Aider’s are present at each session.

What should I wear? The club recommends members wear appropriate comfortable sports clothing and footwear

Can I try before joining? Yes indeed.

What does it cost? An entry charge is payable to Grangemouth Stadium (around £3.20 per session) Forth Valley Flyers membership is £25 per year which includes entries into some competitions.

Do I have to compete? It is up to you. We go to several meetings over the year and we encourage our athletes to compete if they want to. It is fine if you don’t want to compete and the membership costs are £15 per year if you do not wish to compete.

How do I progress in athletics? First, come along on a Friday night. We will identify if you have the attitude to progress to our Tuesday night for more focused training.

What is available for seated athletes? We have racing wheelchairs and seated throwing frames. We also have race running frames for those with Cerebral Palsy and other movement limiting conditions. The racing wheelchairs and  running frames train on a Tuesday as it is safer to do so.

Do you provide one to one support? Unfortunately we can’t. Whatever level of support you need in everyday life you should bring this support to training and our coaches will direct them to help you.

What other organisations do you work with?  Forth Valley Flyers are affiliated to Forth Valley Disability Sport, Scottish Disability Sport and Scottish Athletics. We work closely with all these and Falkirk, Stirling and Clacks local authorities.

How do I get involved? Please let us know by using the contact page and we will arrange things.
